In October 2023, we partnered with OnSide and the University of Chester’s Dr. Kim Ross to facilitate a research project to help young women feel welcome and included in the upcoming youthzone.
We enrolled a team of researchers comprised of young women from the local area to decide how they would like Crewe’s upcoming Youth Zone (The Dome) to look.
Taking into account accessibility, inclusion and girls’ safety, they visited several Youth Zones across the country, assessed the safety of local transport routes, gained insight from young people already using youthzone’s, and compiled their findings, which were presented in December 2024.

Our young researchers reported such a positive outcomes from participating in the Hear HER Voice YouthZone project, that we knew we had to continue providing opportunities for young women to be heard and make positive change to their local community and beyond.
We have since hosted 5 different Hear HER Voice research session on different topics that affect the lives of local young women and girls including:
- Girls in sport
- Safe spaces
- Creating Her-Place (local services)
- Healthy relationships education
- Sandbach (What young women would like from a new community space)
