Who We Work With

Every Girl Deserves the Opportunity to Thrive

At InspireHER, we believe every young woman and girl deserves to feel safe, valued, empowered and supported to reach her potential, regardless of her background or circumstances.

Our work primarily supports girls aged 13-18, extending up to age 25 for those experiencing additional vulnerabilities or barriers. While InspireHER welcomes all girls, we recognise that some face greater challenges in accessing opportunities, support and positive experiences.

Through our workshops, wellbeing programmes and community activities, we have supported young women and girls from a wide range of backgrounds, including those:

  • Experiencing socioeconomic disadvantage, poverty or social exclusion.

  • With special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), adapting our activities to accommodate different needs.

  • Facing challenges with mental health, confidence, self-esteem or emotional wellbeing.

  • With care experience, including care leavers preparing for independent living.

  • At risk of, or with experience of, involvement in the criminal justice system.

  • Facing barriers to education, employment, independence or accessing opportunities.

We understand that these experiences can overlap, and that young women facing multiple disadvantages may need additional encouragement, flexibility and support to thrive.

Inclusive Opportunities for All

While our focus is empowering young women and girls, we recognise that achieving lasting gender equality requires shared understanding.

Some of our workshops, including Ada, White Ribbon talks and Women’s Health, have been adapted for primary-aged children and boys, helping to build awareness of equality, respect and wellbeing from an early age.

We also work with local SEND schools and tailor our programmes to support different learning styles, abilities and individual needs.

Our EmpowerHER workshops, developed with and for care leavers, help young women build the practical skills and confidence needed for independent living, while remaining accessible to others preparing for adulthood.

Supporting Positive Futures Through Early Intervention

We believe that positive experiences, trusted relationships and opportunities for personal development can make a meaningful difference to young people facing disadvantage.

Through our links with Youth Justice Services, young people have been referred into InspireHER programmes and volunteering opportunities, helping them develop confidence, transferable skills and positive community connections.

We have also collaborated with the police on a range of projects and worked with StreetGames on initiatives aimed at preventing young people from becoming involved in criminal activity through physical activity, wellbeing and positive engagement.

StreetGames recognised the wider value of this work, describing it as:

“…an important gateway not only to increasing physical activity and wellbeing, but also to accessing other forms of support.”

Why Our Work Matters in Crewe

Our main community hubs are based in Crewe, where significant inequalities can affect the opportunities and wellbeing of children and young people.

Historical deprivation data identified 13 of Cheshire East’s 18 most deprived neighbourhoods within Crewe, highlighting the concentration of disadvantage in the area.

Poverty, social exclusion and limited access to opportunities can contribute to poorer wellbeing, educational inequalities and increased vulnerability. For young women and girls, these challenges may be compounded by gender-specific barriers, including safety concerns, discrimination and unequal opportunities.

We recognise that disadvantage does not define a young person’s future. However, access to safe spaces, positive role models, wellbeing support and practical life skills can be crucial in helping young women overcome barriers and build brighter futures.

Working Together to Make a Difference

Through collaboration with schools, community organisations, and other partners, we create inclusive opportunities that help young women build confidence, develop life skills, strengthen their wellbeing and recognise their potential.

Whether a young woman joins us to develop new skills, make friends, improve her wellbeing or find support during a challenging time, she belongs at InspireHER.

Because every girl deserves the opportunity to thrive, and her circumstances should never define her potential.
